While the 10/22 has had its magazines neutered to 10 rounds it is still a widely popular firearm in Canada. This popularity stems from it being one of the most customizable rimfire firearms around. You can make it look like a Thompson submachine gun, like a G-36 or even just a fun rimfire competition rifle. Newcomer to the rimfire market Grey Birch Solutions has come out with a couple of different receiver sets and two lengths of carbon fiber-wrapped barrels.
The Shrike RDR | The Red Dot Ready Receiver
The Grey Birch RDR is an interesting take on adding a red dot optic to your 10/22. Instead of mounting your optic to a Picatinny rail like you have grown accustomed to it mounts to a plate on the rear of the receiver. This plate is a Glock MOS compatible plate. What this gets you is the optic being mounted lower to the receiver and depending on your stock choice it will make your cheek weld far more comfortable. It comes with a cover plate installed that still allows you to use standard 10/22 rails also.
The Shrike LDR | The Long Distance Ready Receiver
The Grey Birch LDR is a perfect building block for those of you who compete in long-range rimfire competition shooting. It sports an integrated 20 MOA rail giving you more elevation in your scope since you are going to need it to dial out for those long-distance shots. Just like the RDR it is compatible with all other 10/22 parts other than a top rail in this case because it is integrated.
Carbon Fibre Wrapped Barrels | Thick But Light Barrels
GBS not only has a few different receiver sets to build off of but they also now have carbon fiber-wrapped barrels in both 12.5 and 16.1-inch versions. The wrapping provides exceptional stiffness and reduces the weight of a standard bull barrel. The ends are threaded and come with a thread protector on them. The first instances of the barrel in the wild are providing excellent accuracy results.
